Industrial Control
Machinery
The machine industry or machinery industry is a subsector of the industry, that produces and maintains machines for consumers, the industry, and most other companies in the economy.
This machine industry traditionally belongs to the heavy industry. Nowadays, many smaller companies in this branch are considered part of the light industry. Most manufacturers in the machinery industry are called machine factories.
Semiconductor Fabrication
In the microelectronics industry, a semiconductor fabrication plant (commonly called a fab; sometimes foundry) is a factory where devices such as integrated circuits are manufactured.
A business that operates a semiconductor fab for the purpose of fabricating the designs of other companies, such as fabless semiconductor companies, is known as a foundry. If a foundry does not also produce its own designs, it is known as a pure-play semiconductor foundry. If a foundry produces its own designs, it is known as an integrated device manufacturer (IDM).
Examples
Here at Swan EMS, we manufacture cable harness assemblies and box build assemblies for one of the UK’s largest manufacturer of Semiconductor Fabrication machines. We manufacture anything from a basic Harting Type cable assembly, right the way up to the very complicated Power Supply/Control unit.
The semiconductor market is constantly growing due to the advancement in technology and the increase in their use within our daily lives. Electric Cars, 5G Network and Mobile phones are just a few of the sectors increasing the semiconductor usage. As more semiconductors are needed then demand for the machines that make these semiconductors also increases.
Part of our Box Build Department is dedicated to manufacturing Water Flow Management Enclosures. These monitor the flow of water with rivers, weirs, sewerage and water mains inlets. It connects to a control center via mobile data or directly to broadband. The data collected will let us know if rivers are overflowing or sewage are blocked.
