Building Controls
Building Controls
The building controls sector encompasses various sub-segments covering everything from lighting controls, hands-free washroom sensors, smoke ventilation systems and water pumps through to security-related devices and entire automated building management systems.
Electronic building controls used in this industry can either be digital or analogue. Although they have limited remote monitoring capabilities and do not offer two-way communication, analogue controls play a key role in balancing cost and functionality in building management systems.
Going digital
These days, the world around us is becoming increasingly connected and automated. And that includes buildings and the systems used to manage them. Digital controls provide two-way communication between the controller and the front-end software of a building management or automation system and are being used more and more across both commercial and residential building applications.
Many of these systems are miniaturised versions of existing systems previously seen in industrial environments, combined with the connectivity of the internet to allow for remote monitoring.
Digital controls are also driving the ‘smart homes’ of the future. These days, we can control anything from lighting, heating and water to home entertainment and security systems through the touch of a button (or even our voice) thanks to advances in connected technologies.
At Swan EMS, we have 25 years’ experience in manufacturing cable assemblies, PCB assemblies and other component parts for use in building automation and control systems. To enable optimum performance and, more importantly, safety, these components must be intrinsically safe. This is particularly crucial if they are being used in systems in high-risk or high-pressure environments. Our Quality Management System (QMS) is certified to EN ISO/IEC 80079-34:2018 in line with IECEx and ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, ensuring our products meet the requirements for products certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
From PCB assembly and cable assemblies to electronics box builds, we provide a complete and reliable electronics manufacturing service to the building controls sector — no matter the size or purpose of the building.
